About AdmiNet
The aim of AdmiNet
AdmiNet aims to become a Cyber-Documentation Center delivering general
information
about governmental authorities and public services.
General principles
-
Whenever an official information source is available on the Web,
a prior link is set to it. transcription is made
to the Web as soon as possible.
- In the other case, an attempt is made to find another source on the Web
- When both fail, other electronic or even printed matter are collected and a transcription is made to the Web as soon as possible
Note that public information is obviously often freely available,
although frequently only on printed
papers.
Some restrictions
- No confidential nor copyrighted information should be accepted.
- Any information source should be explicitly stated whenever not
clearly evident.
- In a few cases (e.g. logos) a mention is made of restricted use
of the information.
- In accordance with the French legislation "informatique et
libertés" , no mention should be made
of individual information without agreement of cited people.
The history of AdmiNet
AdmiNet was originally based on an idea of
Christian Scherer.
It was developed with the help of
system managers and software developers working in the
Ecole des Mines de Paris
since the end
of '94.
Christian Scherer
is a worker of the
French Ministry of Industry.
He
first collected a lot of non-confidential information,
in order to offer it for free public consultation through the Net.
in order to offer it to free public consultation through the Net.
The AdmiNet project received encouragements of
Jean-Paul BAQUIAST, the former Secretary of the french
Comité Interministériel pour l'Informatique et la Bureautique dans l'Administration
who created the French
AdmiRoutes association.
It was decided to offer versions in
three languages simultaneously, namely,
English, French and Spanish.
During April '96, a new
front page
was developed for AdmiNet by
Christophe Baubert and
Arnaud Ventura).
We had discussions with
La Documentation Française
which recently opened
its own site, AdmiFrance
AdmiFrance, whose aims are strongly
related to AdmiNet's aims.
Please note that the definitive main address of AdmiNet is now
http://www.admi.net/
AdmiNet's mirrors are now fully on-line at :
New versions of AdmiNet were designed for different languages :
Japanese
Chinese
Russian
Spanish
Italian
Portuguese
Arabic
Of course the huge task of AdmiNet has not yet been completely achieved,
and obviously never will be...

How it was supported till now ?
Jacques LEVY, Directeur de
l'Ecole des Mines de Paris,
and his managing
staff agreed to support
the AdmiNet service on their host computers for a short experimentation
period.
We would also express thanks to the efficient support provided by the
technical services of the
French Ministry of Industry :
- MM. Axel PAVILLET and Yann FRAVAL
(SDIL)
- Mr Jean-François POYAU and Mrs Paule WALLART
(DICOM)
- Mr Eric BANTEGNIE
