RFID Tracking Technology
(14 Nov 2003) Radio frequency identification (RFID), which was developed "during World War II to help anti-aircraft gunners discern friend from foe," may be the next technology for tracking books and other media in circulation. Wal-Mart tracks its inventory with RFID, and other big companies are following its lead. RFID isn't without problems--range and interference, for example--but future standards should address these. |
