VENUE: Centre de Conferences Albert Borschette Avenue FROISSARD, 36 BRUSSELS - BELGIUM **WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES*************************************************** Several technologies can be contemplated for the deployment of an Access Network: ADSL, Hybrid Fibre Coax, full fibre access, wireless access with or without mobility and even satellite technology. Within the context of the ACTS programme, groups of projects and companies dealing with Access Networks have come together into 'Chains' of common interest. The Broadband Access Chains are interested in the evolution and economics of the solutions likely to be offered in the near to medium term future for access to broadband services, in a truly competitive environment. Recommendations and guidelines from these Chains are now available on: BAC: Broadband Access Convergence; BAE: Broadband Access Evolution & Economics; BAM: Broadband Access and Mobility; BAS: Broadband Access Satellite. The objective of the workshop will thus be to present the views of ACTS projects on Broadband Access Networks, the prospects offered by the different competing technologies, their evolution capability as well as the possible barriers still to be overcome to allow for their smooth implementation. (morning session) In addition, recognised experts from operating and manufacturing companies will present their views on Access Networks evolutions and be given an opportunity to comment on ACTS views.
