In his letter, Prime Minister Rabin wrote the following: Mr. President, On behalf of the Jewish people and the State of Israel, I would like to express my thanks to you for adopting an historic position on the occasion of Remembrance Day for the action in the winter stadium. Your address, through the strength and moral meaning in it, surely offers a lesson in history to the free world and future generations. Your inspiring words, recognizing the responsibility of the French state, are a credit to France and her traditions as a land of liberty and human rights. Allow me, Mr. President, to take this opportunity to express the immense debt that Israel and the Jewish people feel towards the righteous gentiles of France.
