JOB VACANCY PRESS, INFORMATION & CULTURAL SECTION (Chinese National) The Delegation of the European Commission intends to recruit a Chinese national to reinforce the Press, Information & Cultural Section. The mandate of this section is to raise the profile of the European Union in China. The team of four staff members in the section is responsible for providing information and maintaining contacts with the press and general public, coordinating the EU presence in different fora, and enhancing the visibility of the EU in China through events and cultural activities. Specific responsibilities will include: The new officer will be involved in three main areas of work, the most important of which will be the planning, implementation and management of events and cultural activities undertaken by the section in Beijing and other provinces and municipalities. The officer will also be responsible for overseeing development of the Delegation website (English and Chinese) and intranet and ensuring that both of these important communication tools are regularly updated with new and topical information. The officer will also be expected to support the existing staff by becoming involved in the daily work of the section, in particular during high level visits from Brussels and other key events such as bilateral summits. Profile required The event management element of the job will involve working closely with government bodies and other external partners around the country as well as staff involved in running and promoting the over 40 development and co-operation programmes funded by the EU in China. This work requires a self motivated person with exceptional communication and organizational skills. A proven track record in event management and the ability to generate fresh ideas are also important. Although technical support in developing and updating the website and intranet will be provided experience in this field would be a significant advantage. Exceptional communication skills in both English and Chinese, written and verbal are a must. In general, the new officer must be able to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and adapt to constantly to varying priorities. Some travelling will be required within China. Specific requirements include · University degree in Social Sciences (preferably English) or 3 years of relevant work experience · Excellent oral and written English and Chinese. Excellent presentation and communication skills. · Proven capacity to coordinate events/project, and experience in event management. · Capacity to act as interpreter (English/Chinese) is an asset, as will be any additional European languages (especially French) · Knowledge of international affairs, or the EU in particular, is an important asset What we offer A challenging position in a small dynamic team.
